The Garfield Movie is a 2024 American animated adventure comedy film based on the comic strip Garfield created by Jim Davis. Directed by Mark Dindal and Paul A. Written by Kaplan, Mark Torgov and David Reynolds, the film stars Chris Pratt as the voice of Garfield. Other voices include Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhams, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Gillen, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Snoop Dogg. The story follows Garfield as he reunites with his long-lost father, Vic, a street-smart cat, and embarks on an exciting adventure with him.
The journey to make the first animated Garfield film for theaters began in May 2016 at Alcon Entertainment. Mark Dindal was announced as director in November 2018, and pre-production began the following month. By 2021, Sony Pictures bought the film rights for global distribution and cast Chris Pratt as Garfield. The rest of the cast joined in 2022. The animation was done by DNEG Animation, and the music was composed by John Dabney, a frequent collaborator of Dindal’s.
The Garfield Movie will be released in the United States by Sony Pictures on May 24, 2024.

The Garfield Release Date & OTT Release Date
The Garfield Movie hits theaters in the United States on May 24, 2024, but was previously released in other countries on May 1, 2024. It was supposed to be released in the US on February 16, 2024, but the date was changed.
In April 2021, Sony signed deals with Netflix and Disney for their movies from 2022 to 2026. Netflix acquired the first streaming rights to films for about 18 months, including The Garfield Movie. After that, Disney got the rights to show movies on Disney+ and Hulu and their TV channels.
