Salaga: Story of Bengaluru’s Underworld
Duniya Vijay’s First Film as a Director:
“Salaga” is the first movie directed by Vishwa Vijay, also known as Vijay Kumar. He wanted to tell a story about a dark side of Bengaluru, a side he knows well. As a storyteller, he does an excellent job of keeping the audience engaged.
Story:
The movie begins at the Mangaluru ports, hinting at the smuggling of arms into Bengaluru. The story then quickly shifts to Salaga, a feared criminal determined to break a criminal network. His ruthless manner is put to the test when ACP Samrat comes into the picture, ready to stop the murders, leading to an intense and thrilling showdown.
How The Film is Made:
The film is just over two hours long, and moves quickly, eschewing the typical tone found in underworld dramas. The dialogues penned by Masti are sharp and effective without sounding superficial. The action scenes are intense, but Charan Raj’s background music adds subtle balance, like “Tagaru” and “Popcorn Monkey Tiger.” Editing and camera work are top-notch, showing Vijay’s strong control over the movie. However, the flashback sequences feel a bit too melodramatic and predictable, which stands out against the otherwise balanced tone of the film.
Strong Acting:
The actors give strong performances. Duniya Vijay leads it, and Dhananjaya plays a stylish new role. Sanjana Anand does a good job as a criminal’s love interest, and Vando Sudhi dazzles with her entertaining role as Savitri, garnering much praise.
“Salaga” is intense, full of violence and gore, which explains its A certificate. It may not be for everyone, but those who enjoy raw stories about roadies will appreciate it. The film ends with a thoughtful message, which adds a deeper layer to the bloody story.
