Rathnam Movie Story, Review and Plot
Ratnam (Vishal) is a troubled and unstable man who acts as a force to be reckoned with for MLA Panneer Selvam (Samuthirakani), who uses violence and intimidation to enforce his twisted sense of justice. Haunted by a dark past, Ratnam struggles to control his violent desires. This becomes evident when he learns of a schoolgirl being abused and takes terrible revenge on the culprit.
Things become more complicated when Mallika (Priya Bhavani Shankar), a nurse who looks a lot like his mother, enters the scene. Ratnam’s protective instincts get activated and he starts following her, but he discovers that she is being targeted by thugs sent by Andhra’s notorious land grabber Bima Rayudu (Murali Sharma). This leads to bloody violence, in which Ratnam attacks and kills his enemies to protect Mallika and stop Rayudu’s evil plans.
Directed by Hari, Rathnam is basically 90 minutes of non-stop action and violence, with some drama in between. Don’t expect a deep plot or complex characters; This movie is about Vishal’s ass fucking. The story of an innocent woman named Mallika, who somehow attracts a group of criminals, seems a bit weak. Also, the idea that his parents are willing to die for a piece of land makes no sense. But the director makes it clear – this is Vishal’s show, and he is here to destroy anyone who comes in his way. The emotional parts are just there to give some justification to his violence.
Rathnam film could use some editing. Many of the action sequences feel repetitive, with only minor changes in location and weak reasons for the villains to initiate another fight. It’s the usual Hari formula – action-packed, fast-paced, and relentless – but even for that, it sometimes feels slow. This will help in reducing the family drama in Mallika’s house.
Once you accept the crappy setup, you can enjoy the action. There are knives, machetes, car chases, and even a nice single-shot car chase scene. Be it Tamil Nadu, Andhra, or Mallika’s college, the bad guys keep coming, setting the stage for Vishal’s brutal eviction. When you’re in the action, you won’t care about the story or the logic.
Vishal is the star of this show. His role as Ratnam is full of agility, intensity, and charm. Sharp editing and slow-motion shots make his action sequences stylish and exciting. Priya Bhavani plays her role well, showing concern and attraction towards Shankar Ratnam’s protective nature. Samuthirakani brings his usual seriousness to the role of the MLA, cleaning up Ratnam’s mess. Yogi Babu’s comedy is hit or miss. Murali Sharma always looks dangerous as a scary villain. His presence alone makes him a credible bad guy. Gautham Menon’s cameo appearance gets the most excitement from the audience. The rest of the cast does their part, supporting the story as required.
The film’s music, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, is a mix of fun songs and emotional tunes. M. Sukumar’s camerawork captures the fast-paced action and brings Hari’s perspective to life.
