Miyazagan (meaning Sweetheart) is a 2024 Tamil drama film released. It is c. Written and directed by Prem Kumar. Jyothika and Suriya produced the film under their company 2D Entertainment. Karthi plays the lead role, with Arvind Swamy, Rajkiran, Sri Divya, Swati Konde, Devdarshini, Jayaprakash, Sriranjani, Ilavarasu, Karunakaran and Saran Shakti in supporting roles.
The film was first announced in February 2023 under the tentative title Kaarthi 27, as it was Karthi’s 27th film as the lead actor. The official title was announced in May 2023. Filming began in November 2023, primarily in Chennai and Kodambakkam, and was completed by February 2024. The music is composed by Govind Vasantha, with Mahendran Jayaraju as the cinematographer and R. Govindaraj is.

Meiyazhagan Review: Truly Beautiful
C. Prem Kumar’s first movie turned out to be one of the best romantic dramas in Tamil cinema. His 2018 film ’96’ starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha was a beautifully crafted film by a new director, who handled it with confidence and a soft touch. People had high hopes for his next work because of how well his first film was received. After six years, Prem Kumar is back with his new film ‘Maiyazgaan’, starring Arvind Swamy and Karthi.
The story is about Arulmozhi Varman (Arvind Swamy), who returns to his hometown to attend a wedding 22 years away. Much of the movie follows him as he meets old friends throughout the night and goes through an unexpected inner journey. The story is well told, allowing themes like identity, memory and nostalgia to come to life.
Both Arvind Swamy and Karthi are excellent in their roles. Arvind Swamy delivers a brilliant performance, playing the role of a man who calmly faces a difficult past. Karthi, always likable, fits his character perfectly, adding both lightness and deep emotions, making his role unforgettable. The connection between the two actors is amazing to watch. The supporting cast is also strong, leaving a big impression in their small roles. Rajkiran, Jayaprakash and Swati Konde stand out with their emotional performances.
The technical side of the film is also impressive. The cinematography is simple yet beautiful. The second half of the film takes a surprising turn that deepens the main ideas of the film. Although the film seems long, once you’re engaged, you won’t notice time passing.
Govind Vasant’s music and score may not be as instantly memorable as his work for ’96, but it suits the film well. The music is soft and emotional, reflecting the emotions of the main character. The standout song is ‘Ghar Manni’, which beautifully captures the feeling of looking back to the past. Kamal Haasan lends his voice to ‘Poraan Naa Poraan’ and ‘Yaaro Ivan Yaaaro’, adding a gentle vulnerability to the tracks.
In summary, it’s hard to talk about ‘Miyazagan’ without giving away too much of the story. It is a very satisfying and transformative experience if you let yourself into it. C. Prem Kumar has surpassed his debut, delivering a heartwarming, touching and funny film full of emotions.
