Jigarthanda DoubleX is a 2023 Indian action drama film made in Tamil. Directed and co-produced by Karthik Subbaraj, the film is a tie-in to the 2014 film “Jigarthanda”, serving as both a sequel and a prequel. The story is set in the 1970s and follows a young policeman who pretends to be a filmmaker and tries to get close to a gangster.
Jigarthanda DoubleX film was first announced in August 2022 under the tentative name “Jigarthanda 2” and received its official name in December. Shooting began in Madurai the same month, shifted to Thandikudi, and was completed in early July 2023. The music was composed by Santosh Narayanan, with Thiru handling the cinematography and Shafiq Mohammad Ali handling the editing.
Released around the festival of Diwali on November 10, 2023, Jigarthanda DoubleX received positive reviews for its well-executed visuals, strong script, good acting, music, visuals, production quality, and editing. The film was particularly praised for its emotional depth and exciting action scenes.
