Jahangir National University Plot and Storyline
“JNU” tells the story of Saurabh Sharma, a small-town student who joins Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Saurabh gets annoyed by the actions of the leftist students, whom he believes are anti-national, and starts speaking out against them. He meets Akhilesh Pathak, known as Baba, who guides him to oppose leftist influence in JNU. During this time Saurabh also finds love and support in Richa, who becomes his partner.
Saurabh and his right-wing friends start challenging the left-wing group, which was previously unchallenged. Saurabh’s efforts lead him to enter JNU politics, where he creates history by winning the elections. As a student counselor, he fights anti-national activities of the Left and works on projects that benefit students by gaining popularity. With Baba’s help, Saurabh pushes back against anti-national protests and addresses issues like love jihad on campus.
In 2014, Saurabh won a landslide victory as joint secretary defeating the dominant Left party backed by the university administration. By 2019, things heat up when the government announces a fee hike for JNU students. Left-wing students protested the hike and attacked those who supported it, including members of the right-wing student group ABVP.
In turn, the ABVP students come together and fight against the leftist students with the support of the local authorities. The incident highlights the fierce political battles within JNU. The film “JNU,” while portraying Saurabh’s fight against left hegemony, acts as a propaganda piece, so viewers should watch it with a critical mind.
